For those of you who were not here today (and even if you were), here’s what you missed.
Have a fantastic Winter Break! Get lots of rest, enjoy the holidays and your time with your families, and I will see you in January.
- I will give you a day to review your ionic and covalent nomenclature and diagrams on January 5th.
- We will cover 7.3 on January 6th (take notes before then). We may go over more than this, depending on timing.Your quarter 2 projects will be due January 6th – I will not accept late projects. I have updated the project sheet to have a little more detail here, including more detailed point allotments.
- Your chapter homework will be due around the end of the first week back or the beginning of the second. Note that we will not explicitly cover every section in class, but you will be expected to turn in notes on all sections, so you may want to just finish them over break.
- The midterm schedule has been released, and I have posted it here. It will consist of 100 multiple choice questions, and you will be allowed to bring:
- Your colored periodic table
- Your ion chart
- A calculator
- A 5 x 7 index card with any information you want written on it
- Start studying for midterms now! If you want pointers on how to spread out your studying, try this page.
- Course registration forms will be out the week before midterms, so start thinking about what science class you want to take next year. My most common recommendations are for general physics (usually students who have As, Bs, or mid/high Cs) and forensics and marine science (low Cs, Ds, Es, and students actually interested in forensics or marine science). However, you technically have a number of other options, including Anatomy and Physiology, AP Physics 1, AP Mechanics, AP Environmental Science, AP Biology, and AP Chemistry – these are all very difficult and rigorous classes that I rarely recommend general students for, but will consider on a case-by-case basis.
